Asher Roth Signs to Def Jam

Look who’s back like he never left. Asher Roth. Remember how everyone wrote him off after Asleep in the Bread Aisle? Well, the Philly spitter has found a new home at Def Jam.

And the label is getting right down to business. They’ve already picked a date for Roth’s first Def Jam outing/second album: March 2012. Mark your calendar, because Roth has a chip on his shoulder this time.

The young star says he’s excited about his new opportunities. “Def Jam is a great place to call home,” said Roth. “I’m excited to get back to the basics with good, honest music.”

While working out a label deal, Asher kept his fans satiated with a flurry of free music. He teamed up with Nottz for The Rawth EP last year. His latest work is the Pabst & Jazz Sessions, a collection of tracks by Asher, The Cool Kids’ Chuck Inglish, with production by duo Blended Babies, out December 20th. Asher’s portion of the revenue will go to The Philadelphia Hunger Coalition.

He also dropped a dizzying mess of new videos this year.
